Monday night, Sept. 13, one of fashion’s best nights ever was back: the annual Met Gala. Some of the biggest stars descended on New York to show off their fashion reveals and we, on the other side of this, watched from our phones and TVs, not-so-silently judged every outfit that came down the red carpet.
For some Star Wars fans, fashion may not particularly be their thing. Because, we’re usually here to talk movies and TV, not high fashion. But the Met Gala, in particular, is a good exception to this rule because when there is an event, there are memes to be made… and the Star Wars fandom was definitely out in full force this year.
In fact, one of the biggest memes of the night revolved around Star Wars, all thanks to Lil Nas X. The music artist wore a three-layered ensemble last night, but it was his second layer that drew the most meme attention. Below a thick cape, he revealed what was intended to be golden armor. But the yellow-gold metallic hue was enough to compare his ensemble to none other than C-3PO himself, and it was absolutely hilarious.

The next biggest meme among Star Wars fans was announcing all the Star Wars characters who unofficially arrived at the Met Gala. I mean, who wouldn’t love to see the boys of the Five-Oh-First arrive at the Gala in those highly coordinated, couture ‘fits?
… Too soon…
Mark Hamill was also a standout candidate who should have been invited to the Met Gala simply to wear this stunning disco outfit. Note: he didn’t actually attend the 1980 Met Gala in this, but we could dream.
And then, we have some more general Star Wars vibes from amongst the celebs who attended the event.
Oh, and if you were wondering what the theme for this year was, Star Wars definitely was not it. The theme was called In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. So, apparently American fashion is very on-brand with Star Wars. Who would have thought?
