New Star Wars Hunters trailer reveals characters you’ve never seen before
By Meg Dowell
Star Wars video games have been a slow but worthwhile stream of gifts over the past five years. Several mobile games have come and gone (some have come and stayed). The new Battlefront games leaned heavily on the multiplayer experience while Jedi: Fallen Order focused on single-player, story-driven gameplay. Star Wars: Hunters will offer another multiplayer, arena-style combat game, but it’s unlike anything we’ve gotten recently.
On Tuesday, Lucasfilm Games and Zynga released a cinematic trailer of the game, introducing several new characters including a Dark Side warrior, a Mandalorian, and a Wookiee with a sizable temper (but aren’t they all like that?).
The game will allow players to compete against each other with teams of Rebel, Imperial, and bounty hunter characters. So if you’ve been looking for a Star Wars game you can play with your friends that doesn’t require a more traditional console system, Hunters might be the perfect experience for you.
Star Wars: Hunters details
The game takes place after the fall of the Empire (think the era between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens) when various factions across the galaxy suddenly had to adjust to a new ruling presence and the remnants of a shattered regime.
Star Wars: Hunters will be free to play similar to other arena-style mobile games like Galaxy of Heroes. Players can register early to get exclusive in-game content when it does release, but it will still be a while before Hunters officially launches.
The game will be available on a variety of platforms — not just iOS and Android like most mobile-exclusive games — but also on the Nintendo Switch, which might open the experience up to more potential players who don’t want to use a phone or tablet to play a Star Wars game.
Hunters may still be far off, but at least you can watch the trailer as many times as you want while you wait.
Star Wars: Hunters will be available on the App Store, Google Play, and the Nintendo Switch starting in 2022.
