The Emmy-winning second season of The Mandalorian was acclaimed by both viewers and critics alike. Now, a new book will take Star Wars fans behind the scenes of the artistic process involved in bringing season 2 to life.

Lucasfilm announced this week that The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 will release in December, just in time for the large holiday season. Published by Abrams Books and written by Phil Szostak, the book will reportedly feature exclusive concept art of creatures, vehicles, weapons, and much more.

In addition, exclusive anecdotes and interviews with people involved with the show will be included. This includes stories from show creator Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni, among others.

Abrams’ website states that the book will also cover many of the new characters that were introduced in season 2, including Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano. “Readers will encounter early visual and conceptual ideas for these new characters and their arsenal of weapons, ships, and armor,” the website said.

Abrams Books has become somewhat of a mainstay partner for Lucasfilm over the past decade. The company has published numerous titles under the Star Wars brand, including concept art books for all five Disney-era feature films, exclusive illustration series, and many others related to the artistic history of Lucasfilm.

The previously-released The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, which covered the first season of the show, was published in December 2020 and was received rave reviews. Space.com called it “an absorbing coffee table book dedicated to delivering an inside peek at the entire pre-production artistic process behind the smash-hit show.”

If the upcoming book is anything like its predecessor, then many of the same unique insights into the show will likely be available within its pages, and the 300 color illustrations it reportedly includes might shine a light on some new secrets.

While it does not release until Dec. 14, The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 is available for pre-order now on the Abrams Books website.
