Update Oct. 19, 2021, 7:15 p.m. ET: We are able to confirm by a release sent from Disney that Rogue Squadron has not moved release dates. And future untitled Star Wars movies are currently set to come out on 12/19/25 and 12/17/27.

On Monday, Variety reported that several of Disney’s movies would be pushed back with new release dates. But for the Star Wars fans out there, it seems like we won’t have to worry about Star Wars films being affected right now.

Of the films that have new release dates, the closest thing to the Star Wars family that’s getting pushed back is Indiana Jones 5. The film brings back Harrison Ford in the lead role as Indiana Jones and features several other big stars, including Star Wars alums Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Originally set to come out on July 29, 2022, the film has been delayed nearly a whole year — now set to come out on June 30, 2023.

Next, Marvel Studios is set to have a few of its new movies be pushed back several months. That includes sequels like Doctor Strange 2 and Black Panther 2. Here’s a quick breakdown of the Marvel films being moved:

  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: March 25, 2022, moved to May 6, 2022
  • Thor: Love and Thunder: May 6, 2022, moved to July 8, 2022
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: July 8, 2022, moved to November 11, 2022
  • The Marvels: November 11, 2022, moved to February 17, 2023
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania:  February 17, 2023, moved to July 28, 2023

On top of that, there were two unnamed Marvel projects that were set for July and October 2023 that have been removed from the schedule altogether, at least for right now. And another Marvel film in 2023 has been moved up a few days in November.

Have any Star Wars projects moved release dates?

Based on this report, no Star Wars projects have been affected by the changes so far. The first post-Skywalker saga film to come out from the company is Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, directed by Patty Jenkins. And as of now, the movie still has a December 22, 2023 release date.

And according to the report, the only reason the other movies have been delayed is due to some sort of production issues. We’re not sure why, specifically, Indiana Jones 5 needs to be pushed back so far. But with the MCU movies, it makes sense that if one movie falls behind on production or needs extra time, then all the movies following it will have to be pushed back as well.

All that to say, this looks like it only affects the films coming from these studios under Disney. For either of the studios, it doesn’t look like the Disney+ television shows will be affected thus far. But for Marvel, especially, they may end up shuffling a few release dates for their television series as well just because they typically tie into the movies.
