10. Boba Fett’s first on-screen appearance was in the Star Wars Holiday Special

While Boba Fett officially wowed mainstream audiences and fans for the first time alongside Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back, his first on-screen appearance was in fact two years prior in the controversial and notorious The Star Wars Holiday Special.

The Star Wars Holiday Special was intended as a variety special stop-gap to tide over fans between A New Hope and the highly anticipated release of The Empire Strikes Back, but creative differences between George Lucas and the television network quickly led to the messy and legendary product that was only aired once.

One of the enduring and more successful parts of the special was a cartoon known as “Story of the Faithful Wookiee,” which focused on a mysterious bounty hunter, an early version of Boba, who Chewie believed to be an ally on his journey home for Life Day until he discovered the hunter’s true allegiance to Darth Vader.

Additionally, Lucas wrote the animated segment himself, making it one of the few parts of the special he had a direct hand in. Though “Story of the Faithful Wookiee” is not canonical, it’s a fun and whimsical addition to the wide and varied world of Boba Fett and his backstory.
