Star Wars: 15 surprising facts about the legendary Boba Fett
13. Boba Fett’s name wasn’t said until Return of the Jedi
Though Boba Fett was instantly iconic with his first canonical appearance in The Empire Strikes Back, the character’s name wasn’t revealed in that film. Boba Fett initially appeared as a shadowy and mysterious figure who audiences knew little about. However, the lack of details added to his intrigue and appeal.
One of these mysteries was the name of the so-called bounty hunter who aided Darth Vader in Han Solo’s capture to retrieve a bounty on behalf of Jabba the Hutt. While Boba’s mission was clear enough, his name was unknown until Return of the Jedi when Han finally spoke his name.
Funnily enough, though the two characters were important to each other’s arcs, Boba and Han never had a full conversation on screen. However, Han played a critical role by naming his former captor.
The moment was a bit chaotic. Han was still blind from carbonite sickness and couldn’t even see Boba. But he was told to look out for him by his faithful companion, Chewie, as Han and his friends fought Jabba and his thugs on Tattooine, prompting the line, “Boba Fett? Boba Fett, where?”
The moment finally gave audiences a name for the fan-favorite enigmatic character while leaving plenty of mystery left to solve.
