2. Boba Fett’s name comes from an ancient Mandalorian word
While Boba Fett was orphaned at a young age, his connection to his father and his family’s legacy remained strong, beginning with his last name. According to The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett by Daniel Wallace, Ryder Windham, and Jason Fry, Boba and Jango are part of a Mandalorian Clan that stretches back generations to the Mandalorian Wars.
Per Star Wars lore, Jango was a foundling who was brought into Clan Fett when his parents were killed during the Mandalorian Civil War. The history of Clan Fett’s name can provide further insight into Boba Fett’s origins.
According to Wallace, Windham, and Fry, the original name for the tribe came from the Mandalorian word “vhett” which roughly translated to farmer. Members of Clan Fett indeed could be traced back to a lineage of farmers but eventually became known for their skill in battle and work as ruthless bounty hunters.
Jango later carried on this legacy, which he eventually passed on to Boba, in his trade as a mercenary while still honoring the Mandalorian and Clan Fett tradition. Though Boba was a clone and not fully raised in the Mandalorian way due to his father’s untimely death, his lineage is still connected to the history of Clan Fett.
