Ever since it was announced that Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor would appear on-screen together again in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, fans have scoured the furthest corners of the internet for all the info they can get about the upcoming Disney+ series. There’s still a lot we don’t know, but today we learned that it was quite an emotional reunion for all involved.

Speaking with Empire Magazine in its upcoming November 25 issue, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy recounted just how mesmerizing it was to see both actors appear on set together again for the first time in over 15 years.

“The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited,”  Kennedy recalled. “They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realizing how important Star Wars was to each of them.”

Kennedy and McGregor first announced that the latter would return as Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2019, though few more details were given until Disney Investor Day 2020 when the series was officially announced. Earlier this year it was revealed that Christensen would return specifically as Darth Vader, rather than as Anakin Skywalker.

Knowing how emotional the actors’ reunion was on set, there’s no doubt we’re all going to be stuck in our feelings when their characters appear on-screen – separately or together – for the first time since Revenge of the Sith.

As the months have progressed, we’ve gotten more pieces of the Obi-Wan Kenobi puzzle here and there. It’s likely we won’t hear much until next year, and a trailer is probably further out than most fans would prefer. But at least we have The Book of Boba Fett to look forward to in just over a month.
