Disney Investor Day 2020 flooded the Star Wars fandom with show and movie announcements. Ever since then, fans have been waiting for updates on shows such as The Acolyte, which has been reported to take place near The High Republic era and will be directed by Leslye Headland.

Yesterday, Variety reported that Amandia Stenberg may be in talks to join Star Wars: The Acolyte, though official confirmation from Lucasfilm or those involved in the project has not been provided. There is no new available information about the show’s characters or plot, and it’s unclear which role Stenberg could be portraying.

Despite the lack of official confirmation, it’s encouraging to see that The Acolyte may still be in very early stages of development. Other projects that were announced alongside the upcoming Dinsey+ series last December, such as Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie and the Rangers of the New Republic series, seem to be struggling to make it through various hurdles that could halt and even cancel their development.

Many fans speculate that The Acolyte will focus on the Sith or some other dark entities or cults that could threaten the galaxy and lead to the downfall of the Jedi and government of The High Republic. But until official confirmation from Headland or other creatives involved with the project reaches fans, it’s impossible to say for sure that this series won’t face similar development challenges to other ongoing Star Wars projects.

Stenberg is best known for their memorable role in The Hunger Games. They played Rue, who befriended the movie’s main character and became a symbol for hope and resistance after losing their life to the deadly games.

The Acolyte is expected to release on Disney+, though a release date has not yet been announced.
