In case time feels like more of an illusion to you lately than usual (can relate), 2022 is only a few weeks away now. It’s going to be a big, exciting year for Star Wars, especially when it comes to content releasing on Disney+.

Earlier today, the streaming service released a 2022 preview that included several Star Wars titles. Missing from the highlight reel, however, is Season 3 of The Mandalorian which was rumored to begin filming earlier this year. There are mentions of The Book of Boba Fett and The Bad Batch. But Din Djarin and Grogu don’t make an appearance at all.

Ever since the Season 2 finale in 2020, Star Wars fans have tossed dozens of questions back and forth about the future of the series. Will Luke Skywalker appear again? Is Baby Yoda gone for good? And what lengths will Din Djarin go to if he wants Bo-Katan to take that darksaber out of his hands for good?

Unfortunately, everything from production delays to possible behind-the-scenes logistics may have pushed the show to a later release date than originally planned. Though it’s also possible that the upcoming spinoff series was always meant to take The Mandalorian‘s place for a season.

Does this mean The Mandalorian Season 3 won’t premiere until 2023? Based on the content shown in the video, it seems likely we won’t see Din Djarin, Bo-Katan and other Season 2 favorites until the next calendar year.

However, this doesn’t mean we won’t see familiar characters from the series in The Book of Boba Fett, which releases its first episode on Disney+ December 29, 2021. There’s no guarantee the two shows will be that closely connected to allow for significant character crossover. But no one involved with the project has denied the possibility yet.
