Is it time for another Star Wars Holiday Special?
By Nick K
With the holiday season in full swing, many networks and studios are promoting Christmas-themed shows and movies. The holiday season brings people together and there sure is no shortage of holiday themed media to watch. Star Wars has delved into the LEGO realm with great success in the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. But, when one thinks of holiday specials and Star Wars, distinctly the Star Wars Holiday Special comes to mind.
The Star Wars Holiday Special was released in 1978 and takes place between the original Star Wars film known as A New Hope and its sequel The Empire Strikes Back and has fans new and old divided since its release. Either you like it or you don’t.
To no surprise, many people don’t like it. There are different reasons for those who do and those who do not like it. Featuring heroes of the original trilogy and a story based upon Chewbacca spending the holiday together with his family and in an animated bit, even Boba Fett makes an appearance.
The Star Wars Holiday special was meant to unite all. The Star Wars Holiday Special was released on disc and is on YouTube.
Speaking of Disney, it is almost weird that Disney did not release a modern live-action Star Wars holiday special with characters from The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Even better would be The Mandalorian holiday special.
Star Wars is a great tool to unite people providing the escape that we all need and understand no matter our ages, race, color, ethnicity and location. The greatest gift of all by Disney and Star Wars to the fans would be a holiday special featuring characters from every trilogy, proving that Star Wars is one of the best uniting sagas in this galaxy or any other galaxy, far, far away.
Maybe the future holds another special. As Yoda would say: “Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.”
