Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas to be honored at 2022 Producers Guild Awards

When you hear the names Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas, you probably immediately think “Star Wars.” Though both are extremely well-known for their roles in bringing a galaxy far, far away to life, they’ve both achieved great things outside of the franchise. The pair will be recognized for such achievements this year by the Producers Guild for their filmmaking efforts over time.

Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas would receive The Milestone Award, which recognizes major contributions to the film industry in which both Kennedy and Lucas are involved.

According to the outlet: “The Milestone Award is considered the PGA’s most prestigious honor and recognized a person, or a team’s, contributions to the industry.” Producers Guild of America presidents Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher spoke highly of both individuals for all the work they’ve done in film over the decades.

"“Together, George and Kathleen have carved out a fantastic empire of entertainment that inspires and entertains billions, all with the highest levels of both creative and technical achievement. What George has built through his movies and through Lucasfilm has enriched every facet of filmmaking, and his colossal creativity and technical genius amazed the world. Kathleen has ascended to the highest levels of our industry, facing ever-changing challenges each time she succeeded in producing one of the brilliant and boundary breaking films she is known for.”"

Both Kennedy and Lucas expressed their gratitude for receiving the Milestone Award. They’re especially honored to be receiving the award together, as the two have been working on films in tandem for decades. When Lucas appointed Kennedy the president of Lucasfilm upon his departure, he wasn’t just offering the role to a talented producer. He was also offering it to a longtime friend.

The 2022 Producers Guild Awards ceremony will take place on March 19.
