Casting news — and information in general — has come out slowly and sparingly for the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Ahsoka over the past few years. While Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano from her appearance in The Mandalorian, other than a few minor details and plenty of circulating rumors, there’s not much else to go off of. Yesterday, another small piece of news hit the headlines.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be joining the cast of the Ahsoka series alongside Hayden Christensen and Rosario Dawson. This news comes several months after the same outlet reported that Ivanna Sakhno would be joining the cast in a new, still unspecified role. We also know that Sabine Wren, a primary character in the animated Star Wars: Rebels series, will hold a prominent role alongside the character of Ahsoka.

Winstead is best known for her roles in Scott Pilgrim vs. The WorldBirds of Prey, and Fargo, with many more movies and shows behind and in front of her. While we don’t know any details about the character she will play in the series, some speculate she could be the right age to play Hera Syndulla at the point in the timeline the show is expected to take place. With Sabine in the picture, and presumably a search for Grand Admiral Thrawn underway, it would make sense to include another Rebels character in the fray. But there are no guarantees.

At this point, Ahsoka is expected to release exclusively on Disney+ sometime in 2023, though plenty of projects have been moved around in the last few years to warrant an even later release date. Disney Investor Day 2020 promised a lot to come. It just didn’t specify when.
