The Book of Boba Fett: Is Cobb Vanth dead or alive?

This post contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett “Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger.”

Cobb Vanth, played by Timothy Olyphant, came back for the ending of The Book of Boba Fett. Previously Cobb established himself as the Marshall of Mos Pelgo. Mos Pelgo is just a modest settlement in the midst of Tatooine, but Cobb’s forced expulsion led him to a Jawa Sandcrawler. The same Sandcrawler that had Boba Fett’s armor, and using that armor Cobb Vanth freed Mos Pelgo.

After a deal with Din Djarin, Vanth lost the armor but continued his quest to maintain peace in his province. After Din Djarin returns to Mos Pelgo to request his assistance with the spice trading Pyke Syndicate, Cobb agrees to think about his request. Unfortunately for Cobb, the Pyke have hired the infamous bounty hunter Cad Bane to solve the Mos Pelgo problem.

Cad Bane arrived on the horizon, and Cobb attempted to dissolve the situation, but ultimately his deputy doomed him. Bane shoots Cobb only once and leaves him on the sands of Tatooine to die. Characters in Star Wars have survived much worse, some even being cut in half. Most of the time they do survive, but they are usually Force-users. In this case, Cobb was shot in the town and there are plenty of people to tend to his wounds. That doesn’t guarantee his survival, however.

Sometimes we can find clues through press releases or cast lists, sometimes even what actors say. In this instance, however, we don’t have that kind of information. We do have a little bit of information from the closed captions, however. The villagers can be seen asking for med packs, as well as calling for a doctor. Given all the factors, and the popularity of Cobb Vanth/Timothy Olyphant we can expect to see him come back.

Unfortunately, it seems like the war between the Pykes, Cad Bane, and Boba Fett’s coalition is just getting started. While most of our favorites survived the first round, we can’t be sure they will survive the second.
