Yesterday, Lucasfilm announced Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi would arrive this May. Ewan McGregor has already gushed about his experience returning to play a character he hadn’t previously touched for over 15 years.

Speaking with Forbes recently, McGregor said the upcoming Disney+ series will absolutely satisfy fans of the long-standing franchise.

“I’m not going to give away anything else about the storyline,” he promised, “only I think it’s really going to satisfy Star Wars fans. I always felt there was a story between Episode III where I finished playing Obi-Wan in the movies and Episode IV where Alec Guinness is Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

Several years ago, McGregor and Kathleen Kennedy famously announced that the actor would be returning to play Obi-Wan in Star Wars again, though the pair did not specify exactly how this would play out. It was announced much later that he would reprise his role as the title character in a new Disney+ limited series, though many details of the show itself are still largely under wraps.

McGregor also couldn’t discuss his experience filming the show without giving props to series director Deborah Chow, who will direct every episode of the limited original series.

“It was a great experience. Deborah Chow directed all the episodes and she’s really good,” he said. “She directed a couple of The Mandalorian and she’s a really great director. She really knows the Star Wars world, inside out, far more than I.”

There are just a little over three months to go before the show finally drops, and we’ll likely be hearing much more about its production in the meantime.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, directed by Deborah Chow, stars Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. It is being billed as a limited series and will run for a total of six episodes starting in May.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Disney+ May 25, 2022.
