Origins of the Scorpenek Annihilator droids In The Book of Boba Fett
This post contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett “Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor.”
The Book of Boba Fett just came to a roaring end, with an ending battle with everything from rancors, jetpacks, and Cad Bane. But the absolute beats for the Pykes come in the form of the Scorpenek Annihilator droids.
If you thought that Droidekas were scary, then come meet their big brothers. Similar to the Droidekas, the Scorpenek Annihilator droids were produced on the Colicoid homeworld of Colla IV. According to Legends — specifically The New Essential Guide to Droids — these droids were supposed to replace the Droidekas, but their expensive nature prevented this from happening.
They stand a staggering 3.5 meters high, and feature blaster cannons that could a dozen AT-TE’s to dust. According to the book, fewer than 100 of them existed on Colla IV itself.
This raises a few questions on how the Pykes got their hands on them. Not only were all Sepertirst droids shut down at the end of the Clone Wars, but these droids are massively expensive.
Not only that, but according to Legends, Emperor Palpatine himself send as many as he could to his personnel citadel on Byss. While that storyline has since been written off by Disney, it raises the question of if we will see these terrifying droids again?
Nevertheless, the Scorpenek Annihilator droids have probably come the closest to killing Din Djarin and Boba Fett than any other enemy we have seen. With shields that can even repel the Darksaber, we can see why the Pyke Syndicate was so confident in their victory.
While it is unlikely the Pyke’s will come back to fight Boba after Fennec eliminated their leadership when something requires you to ride a rancor and have a force user assist you, you know it’s going to go down in history.
Season 1 of The Book of Boba Fett is streaming now exclusively on Disney+.
