New Star Wars book will make Han and Leia’s wedding canon

For fans looking for something new to read, there’s always hope in upcoming Star Wars books. In 2022 alone, there is at least one book releasing almost all 12 months in a row. August’s novel has just been revealed, and it’s the continuation of a love story fans already adore.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, StarWars.com announced that Beth Revis, author of Star Wars: Rebel Rising, would be returning to a galaxy far, far away. She is writing The Princess and the Scoundrel, which will tell the story of Han Solo and Princess Leia’s wedding. And she’s been working on it for quite some time.

“I wanted this to be a story where the past was still present, but they were moving forward into new territory,” Revis said. “It’s an emotional journey — the aftermath of war always is, but so is the new foundling steps of love.”

Han and Leia’s love story after Return of the Jedi was previously told in The Courtship of Princess Leia, a Star Wars Legends novel that involved accidentally inheriting planets, possessive princes, jealousy … and rancors? Canon technically hasn’t overridden any of that story extensively until now. And the sequel trilogy created the perfect point from which to work backwards when writing in the post-ROTJ era.

Revis told StarWars.com:

"“One thing that I love about the new movies is that Leia and Han don’t actually end up in the idyllic perfect family life that we like to think of as a “happily ever after.” Instead, they have to work — for decades — to remain in love, and they consistently choose to make that happen. Even if they’re apart, they’re still in love, not because of fate, but because they choose to be.”"

It’s been years since Revis made this big of a splash in Star Wars literature, and this book is sure to compete with Rebel Rising for her best work yet.

Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel will release on August 16, 2022 wherever books are sold.
