Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze remains a complex, multilayered character that continues to appear across different Star Wars stories. Though it’s been years since we first met her, it’s likely we’ll be seeing more of her again very soon.
Katee Sackhoff has portrayed Bo-Katan in two animated Star Wars shows and in one live-action Disney+ series so far. She voiced the character first, and got to play her in full later on. Here’s where she’s been.
Bo-Katan in Death Watch
Bo-Katan first appeared in Season 5 of The Clone Wars though her role was very small at first. Her relation to Satine wasn’t revealed until after the duchess’s death. Until Maul’s takeover of Mandalore, Bo-Katan was a member of Death Watch. During the Siege of Mandalore, she worked with Ahsoka Tano to liberate Mandalore from Maul’s forces.
Unfortunately, the next time we saw her, things hadn’t improved much.
Bo-Katan the rebel
Audiences would have to wait a while to see Bo-Katan again after Season 5 of The Clone Wars originally ended. She appeared in Season 4 of Star Wars: Rebels when Sabine Wren arrived on Mandalore to help drive Imperial forces out.
In the two-episode arc, Bo-Katan discovered that Sabine had named a weapon she’d created on behalf of the Empire after Satine. Working together, they managed to destroy the weapon, and Sabine gifted the Darksaber to Bo believing she was the right person to reunite the clans of Mandalore and restore it to its former glory.
Bo-Katan’s reign did not last long.
This is the way
Sackoff portrayed Bo-Katan in live-action for the first time in The Mandalorian in “Chapter 11: The Heiress.” At this point, Bo revealed she had lost Mandalore after the Purge. We already knew that Gideon had somehow gotten hold of it, but still don’t know exactly how.
It’s still unclear whether or not we will see Sackhoff return as Bo-Katan — in live-action or animation — at any point in the future. Due to her close ties with the Darksaber and her desire to see Mandalore restored, it’s safe to assume we will see her again in The Mandalorian Season 3. But like last time, we probably won’t see it coming until it’s already happening.
