Let’s be honest, one of the best characters to come out of Star Wars‘The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett has been Marshal Cobb Vanth of Freetown (previously Mos Pelgo) on the planet Tatooine. Played by none other than the naturally-talented Timothy Olyphant (TV series’ Deadwood, Justified, Fargo), Cobb Vanth has easily become a fan favorite.
Like most relatable characters in the Star Wars universe, he started out as a slave on Tatooine. In a unique turn of events, he comes across Boba Fett’s armor that Jawa’s had stolen upon his escape from the sarlacc pit.
When Mandalorian Din Djarin finds him, he’s surprised to learn he is not a Mandalorian. The two aid each other and Tusken Raiders against the krayt dragon and in the end he gives Din Djarin the armor which is returned to Boba Fett.
However, when Din Djarin seeks Vanth’s help against the Pykes, whom Vanth previously had encounters with, things take a bad turn. Vanth doesn’t want any involvement, neither does Freetown, until the deadly mercenary Cad Bane arrives.
Will Cobb Vanth get his own Star Wars spinoff series because he absolutely should!
He seemingly kills Vanth with one shot, hoping to put an end to Freetown’s possible involvement with aiding Boba Fett. Bane’s attack does the opposite as Freetown does indeed arrive and in the end, Cad Bane is killed by Boba Fett.
But Cobb Vanth might still be alive. He is seen recovering in Fett’s bacta tank during the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett about to undergo life-saving surgery with droid parts.
So if Vanth is indeed alive, Disney, can we please get a spinoff? Let’s see what the new and improved Cobb Vanth looks like?
How will the droid parts change him? What will become of Freetown?
Naturally, Cobb Vanth could remain a character we see throughout other Star Wars series’, perhaps in some upcoming ones as well. But it might be better to see him hold a show all on his own.
Let’s see some flashbacks of his youth. Let’s see him use Boba Fett’s armor for the first time.
Maybe he can get Mandalorian armor of his own one day. Yes, it’s a stretch but you have to admit that would be pretty cool.
It’s not like they haven’t been hinting at Mandalorian tradition and ideals changing since there are few left who represent the old way. But until we receive an official word, either way, we can hope he does survive and look forward to what’s next for the Marshal.
