Disney Plus is implementing a substantial change with shows such as Marvel’s Daredevil coming to the platform. Many of the previous Netflix Marvel shows have a TV-MA rating for a reason, but what are these new changes, and how could they impact the Star War’s Universe?

According to the statement from Disney+, this new feature is optimized for parents to be able to trust the Disney Plus system so their kids can stay safe even if they are not being supervised. Collider gives a few more details stating that “When opening Disney Plus for the first time on or after March 16, subscribers will be asked if they would like to change the content rating on each of their profiles from TV-14 up to TV-MA. Subscribers can also choose to add a PIN to their profile for additional protection.” This means that the new system will allow adults to choose which type of content they wish to see.

For the kids specifically, you will be able to set up an exit question for the kid’s profile. This means that even after you log your kid into an account, you can set a question for them to have the choice to navigate to a new profile. When the exit question feature is combined with the login password, this gives a high amount of reliability for securing adult content.

This move by Disney Plus signals a higher degree of willingness to have adult content on their streaming service. For Star Wars, there are several future projects that may have some sort of more mature rating. Andor and The Acolyte both seem set in a more mature setting than we have previously seen before. Star Wars: The Acolyte focuses on a Sith’s perspective, which is literally more of an ‘evil’ focused show. Andor follows the down and dirty perspective of fighting against tyranny which certainly could have some morally ambiguous moments.

These new steps by Disney+ could very well set the stage for more mature Star Wars content. This content could be an indication of a move to satisfy the older audience for Disney+ content.
