Boardgame lovers are sure to rejoice at the recent announcement of Star Wars Villainous. The game designer, Ravensburger, is bringing the Dark Side to a new tabletop experience.

Previous iterations of the Villainous franchise include classic Disney villains like Maleficent and Ursula, while the Marvel version continued to showcase the despicable with Thanos and Hela, and that legacy continues. “Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side arrives this August, and will include Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Asajj Ventress, General Grievous, and Moff Gideon.”

Not only does this upcoming addition to Villainous bring a new level of excitement for board gamers, it will also introduce new gameplay mechanics previously unseen in this Ravensburger collection. Players will now have the opportunity to use vehicles during their actions, which means iconic starships will be present, such as the Millennium Falcon and the Tie Advanced X1 (previously used by Darth Vader himself). The idea behind this new game action will be to allow each player to try and slow down one another, furthering their aim to achieve their goals and conquer the galaxy.

As a parent who happens to love games, and already had Disney Villainous and Marvel Villainous already on our “to-buy” list, this version might just leap to the top of said list. It’s especially encouraging that the production team of Ravensburger worked closely with Lucasfilm to provide an authentic experience where the littlest of details were equally important.

Jenny Webb, project manager at Ravensburger, is quoted about her experience with Lucasfilm, highlighting the importance of getting things right within all aspects of the game, essentially wanting to provide the most accurate Star Wars’ product possible, saying, “I really felt like we had a solid partnership with Lucasfilm.”

Additionally, Star Wars Villainous will leave each player with an exclusive experience compared to anyone else who purchases the game. The player pawns will be unique to everyone – and that’s an incredible thought when realizing how many people will likely purchase this game.

“Every box of Star Wars Villainous will contain slightly different movers. Each will have a subtly randomized look created by a unique new manufacturing process.”

This new pawn appearance will provide a reflective quality to the board. There’s a bit of translucence to them, so it’ll “cast a colored light across the table” as you move from one location to the next. Not only will fans get a board game with some of their favorite villains, but Star Wars Villainous expands on a popular franchise with new game mechanics and unique player pieces that will literally light up your tabletop. Now that’s exciting!

Star Wars Villainous: Power of the Dark Side is expected to sell at $39.99 and will play 2-4 players.
