The first trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series featured plenty of welcome surprises, as well as a few expected yet delightful revelations. The moment a young Luke Skywalker was featured, fans immediately wanted to know more.

The young actor, Grant Feely, will play Luke in the series. To celebrate a new Luke Skywalker entering the fray, Mark Hamill took to social media to congratulate the soon-to-be star.

“Grant Feely looks like a perfect Luke Skywalker,” Hamill posted on Twitter yesterday. “I am wishing him all the very best!”

This won’t be the first time fans have seen Luke again in live-action. He first appeared in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian and was most recently featured in an episode of The Book of Boba Fett. The combination of de-aging technology and new talent brought a Return of the Jedi-era Luke to life. But such efforts can only go so far. For Obi-Wan, a young actor was needed to play Luke around the age of 10 or so. Feely clearly fit the profile flawlessly.

We don’t know much about how prominently Feely’s version of Luke Skywalker will show up in the upcoming Disney+ series. Will it be just the one shot we saw in the trailer, or much more? We don’t know if Feely will even have a speaking role. But this could be something Lucasfilm won’t reveal until the show’s first episodes show Luke again.

Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor with appearances by Hayden Christensen and Kumail Nanjiani and is directed by Deborah Chow, who previously directed an episode of The Mandalorian. The series is set to premiere May 25, 2022 exclusively on Disney+.
