LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s 300+ characters still have one limitation
By Meg Dowell
The wait is almost over! With just over a week to go before LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga finally releases, the studio behind the project is revealing as much as it can about the game’s characters, gameplay features, and more.
The major thing that seems to be missing from the game — and will continue to not be a feature in the finished product releasing soon — is the ability to customize the characters playable in the game.
TT Games clarified on Twitter that even though it originally planned to include character customization in The Skywalker Saga, that’s no longer the case.
“We can confirm that [the game] doesn’t have character customization,” the official account clarified in response to a 2019 interview claiming otherwise. “But we do have 300+ characters for you to choose from.” And that’s no small thing — that’s A LOT of characters!
Despite the inability to customize characters in the game, there are plenty of other features that will make it worth our time aside from the hundreds of available options. One of many ways The Skywalker Saga differs from previous games is that it allows for slightly freer gameplay than ever before. In some instances, for example, there might be more than one way to complete a certain level instead of following just one designated preset path.
Star Wars fans have been waiting for this game for a long time, and it’s easy to initially feel disappointed when a long-awaited experience won’t have everything you imagined it could. But TT Games is about to give us a truly remarkable gift, and we shouldn’t take that for granted — even if it turns out we can’t put Darth Vader’s head on a battle droid body after all.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will release on multiple platforms on April 5, 2022, including but not limited to PC, Xbox One and Series S/X, Playstation 4/5, and more.
