According to Bleeding Cool, Star Wars #45, was bidding on Heritage Auctions. The auction took place on March 27 and 28.
The comic was given a 9.8 on the CGC Universal Grade. CGC, Certified Guaranty Company, states that a comic with a grade of 9.8 is “a nearly perfect collectible with negligible handling or manufacturing defects.”
The Bleeding Cool article mentioned that the comic was “selling for $170” and was expecting to “go higher by auctions end at that grade.” By the end of the auction, the comic sold for $960.
Titled Death Probe, the comic takes place after the events of The Empire Strikes Back and it was published in the year 1981. The comic is a part of the now Star Wars Legends (formerly the Expanded Universe). In the 45th issue, Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 encounter a heavily armored and advanced Imperial Probe Droid that attacked and hijacked Rebel Blockade Runner with the intention of attacking the Rebel Alliance Fleet.
The comic was written by Archie Goodwin. a comic book writer who would become remembered for his run on the Star Wars comic series which showed him using his writing to bridge the events between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. In addition, issue no. 45 was drawn by Carmine Infantino who is best known for creating the Silver-Age version of DC Comics’ superhero The Flash. The comic was also inked by Day & Stone, lettered by John Costanza, and colored by Glynis Wein.
In addition to Star Wars no. 45, other classic Star Wars comics have been sold on auction. Like the aforementioned issue no. 45, Star Wars no. 70 also sold for $960 by the end of the auction.
