In a galaxy, far, far away comes the reprint of four novels from Star Wars Legends lore.

Today, bookstores will be releasing the next round of paperback Star Wars books published by Del Rey that are a part of The Essential Legends Collection to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lucasfilm. Each paperback will also have new cover art.

The round of paperbacks being released are:

  • ·         Wedge’s Gamble by Michael J. Stackpole (cover art by Doaly)
  • ·         Kenobi by John Jackson Miller (cover art by Gregory Manchess)
  • ·         Darth Plagueis by James Luceno (cover art by Qistina Khalidah)
  • ·         Dynasty of Evil by Drew Karpyshyn (cover art by Simon Goinard)

In Wedge’s Gamble, Michael J. Stackpole takes readers to a time where the Rebel Alliance has come out victorious against the battered Galactic Empire. However, the Rebels plan to make move that will deal a huge blow to the tyrannical Empire: the invasion of Coruscant. But first, Wedge Antilles and his band of fellow rebel X-Wing pilots plan to infiltrate the citywide planet in order to gain mission critical intelligence. But Wedge and his pilots know that if one of them is captured within the crosshairs of one ruthless “Iceheart” Yssan Isard, it could mean dire consequences for our heroes.

Next, Jackson Miller’s Kenobi is a story of Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master and a hero of the Clone War- turned reclusive hermit living on the scorching sands of the desert planet of Tatooine. After the events of the Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan has gone into hiding while watching over a young Luke Skywalker. However, when trouble arises in the form of tensions between the farmers and Tusken Raiders, Obi-Wan, known to the Tatooine locals a “Ben,” is compelled to put a stop to the escalating war and fight for justice once more. This would be a great read to prepare for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series coming to Disney +.

The story of Darth Plageuis as told by James Luceno, is about the Sith Master of Darth Sidious, better known as Emperor Palpatine. After killing his Sith Master, Plageuis makes a vow to not suffer that same fate.  This is also a story of Plageuis’ chosen apprentice Palpatine, who studies the Sith arts while also becoming a successful politician in the Galactic Republic. While both Sith Master and apprentice seem to have the same goals: galactic conquest and the extermination of the Jedi Order, there is still the Rule of Two in which the apprentice would eventually take the life of his master and take his place.

Speaking of the Rule of Two, Dynasty of Evil by Drew Karpyshyn is a story about that philosophy that has been established by Darth Bane after 20 years of Sith infighting. Similar to Darth Plageuis this is also a storyu about a master and his acolyte but is also a story of newly established philosophy being tested. The newly ascended Bane questions if his apprentice Zannah could rise to the occasion to defeat him and take his place as Sith Lord. His only option to this flaw is to make himself immortal. However, this motivates Zannah to become determined in slaying her master. The fight between Bane and Zannah will ultimately set the precedent for Sith Lords who follow the Rule of Two to come.
