Will there really be a Kingdom Hearts and Star Wars crossover?

The recent announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4 has introduced and delighted long-time fans of the franchise. But Star Wars fans might have a reason to jump straight onto the game’s hype train, thanks to a brand-new trailer that dropped this weekend.

About 30 seconds into the game trailer below, a forest that looks suspiciously like Endor can be seen — as can what some have assumed could be part of an AT-ST walker, as seen in Return of the Jedi.

Nothing has been confirmed, but people on the internet have been known to spy the tiniest details in single frames of video before. They could really be on to something here.

On April 10, Square Enix celebrated the Kingdom Hearts franchise’s 20th anniversary with the reveal trailer that kicked off plenty of Force-like speculation. The latest game in the series doesn’t have a release date yet, but the excitement is real.

Because the Kingdom Hearts franchise features characters and locations across Disney properties, and Disney has now owned the Star Wars brand for nearly a decade, it’s possible this sequel could include content from a galaxy far, far away. Small glimpses or easter eggs are much more likely, but fans are eager to find out more.

Just because Disney properties are prominently featured in the game doesn’t necessarily mean Star Wars will or even has to be part of it — despite now living under the much larger Disney umbrella, Lucasfilm is very much still its own thing separate from other entities like Marvel. Just because Star Wars doesn’t have to have a space in the game, however, doesn’t mean it won’t.

The previous mainline game in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3, launched in 2019, and Kingdom Hearts 2 came out in 2007. Fans might have to wait a little longer to play, but with or without Endor, it’s going to be a good one.
