A new episode of Star Wars: The High Republic Show with Krystina Arielle premiered on the Star Wars Youtube channel today, and with it we got our first glimpse at a title from the upcoming Phase II of The High Republic.
As always, Krystina gave us an updated look at The High Republic timeline, setting the first issue of the Star Wars: The High Republic Eye of the Storm miniseries at the very beginning. Mission to Disaster and is set before IDW’s Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #13, while Midnight Horizon is set concurrently.
Following shortly after are Marvel’s Star Wars: The High Republic #14 and #15, Star Wars: The High Republic Trail of Shadows #5, and Star Wars: The High Republic Eye of the Storm #2, which are all set during and after the events of the adult novel Star Wars: The Fallen Star.
After the timeline update, Krystina introduced a few of the new authors joining the bold publishing initiative. Joining the original authors are:
Zoraida Córdova, author of A Crash of Fate, George Mann, author of Myths & Fables, Dark Legends, and Star Wars Life Day Treasury, Lydia King, author of Right-Hand Man, a short story featured in From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back, and Tessa Gratton, author of various YA and speculative fiction books.
After a round table discussion with The High Republic authors Justina Ireland and Charles Soule, and senior editor Robert Simpson, Krystina answered a few fan questions. She then treated fans to an exclusive cover reveal of Path of Deceit, by newcomer Tessa Gratton and veteran High Republic author Justina Ireland.
Sporting a stunning new blue and gold version of the familiar Star Wars: The High Republic logo, the cover of Path of Deceit features a female Pantoran Jedi with a golden yellow lightsaber, a mysterious cult leader known as the Mother, and a character called Marda Ro. Marda is a member of the Evereni, a species recently introduced to the Star Wars mythology as a wandering group with no home. It is likely that Marda Ro is an ancestor of The High Republic big bad Marchion Ro, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a few tricks up her sleeves.
StarWars.com gave us a few clues about the forthcoming novel, which will see the protagonists headed to the planet Dalna, which is home to a new group called The Path of the Open Hand.
Could this group be related to Marchion Ro’s hyperspace lanes, and will we see an early version of the Nihil? We’ll find out on November 11 when Star Wars: The High Republic Path of Deceit hits shelves!
