Did you catch the Lord of the Rings Easter Egg in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?
By Meg Dowell
Even if you haven’t picked up the game yet (or watched gamers play it on YouTube or Twitch), you already know LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is full of Easter Eggs. Nods to other Star Wars projects would be plenty — but players get the added bonus of multiple references to other popular franchises like Lord of the Rings, as with Dominic Monaghan’s line in the game.
At one point, Beaumont Kin (played by Dominic Monaghan) gripes about missing his “second breakfast,” a reference to the actor’s Lord of the Rings character Merry. You can actually help Kin prepare his “secret” second breakfast as a side mission in the game to get a special reward.
“Don’t tell anyone you saw us,” Kin says as he stands on top of a ship with his crew. struggling to cook his food “Leia didn’t approve my request for ‘second breakfast,’ so we’re up here cooking it in secret. Well, that’s the plan … but the exhaust won’t come on!”
Go on. Give the guy some help, won’t you? It’ll only take a minute.
Monaghan first played Beaumont Kin in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and, outside of his Lord of the Rings trilogy appearances, also appeared in Lost and the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Because this game is so massive — it covers all nine movies, though each playable story is slightly condensed so you’re not spending 20+ hours trying to get through it all — there’s plenty of opportunity for quick references to other movies and pop culture nods. And they sneak them in everywhere they can get away with.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is available now on your favorite gaming platforms, including but not limited to PC, Xbox One and Series S/X, Playstation 4/5, and more.
