There’s only a little over a month to go before Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres. The next live-action Star Wars show to hit the platform, first announced at Disney Investor Day 2020, will take place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and will welcome the return of Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan as well as the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Fans both eagerly and nervously await a possible confrontation between the two friends-turned-enemies.
The Star Wars Stuff Twitter account posted a promotional image on April 21 teasing this reunion, though it did not specify exactly where the image originated from. The background of the image depicts what appears to be a confrontation between Vader and Obi-Wan, lightsabers drawn and swinging.
The possibility of Vader and Obi-Wan meeting again in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has some fans worried, particularly because A New Hope makes it seem like their duel on Mustafar was the last time the two interacted. However, without knowing exactly how a reunion between the two could take place, it’s impossible to judge the outcome before it plays out on the small screen.
It’s possible, for example, that Obi-Wan could confront Vader in a vision the same way Luke Skywalker confronted his father on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. The promotional image above wouldn’t be lying if that were the case, right?
No matter how a meeting between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi might play out in this series, the show itself is likely to be an experience Star Wars fans won’t easily forget. With the return of iconic prequel trilogy actors and a brand-new story surrounding a time period on Tatooine we have yet to witness on-screen, you’re not going to want to miss what’s to come.
Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor with appearances by Hayden Christensen and Kumail Nanjiani and is directed by Deborah Chow, who previously directed an episode of The Mandalorian. The series is set to premiere May 27, 2022 exclusively on Disney+.
