Rogue One has become one of the most popular of the Disney-era Disney projects. Some of this was due to its excellent casts, such as Deigo Luna‘s Cassian Andor and Donnie Yen‘s Chirrut Îmwe. Luckily we were promised an expansion of that important story in the form of the Andor.
Andor is a prequel to Rogue One that is supposed to cover the darker side of the rebellion. Cassian regularly refers to doing some dark things to progress the rebellion and some had hoped that Andor would be rated R or above to allow for the darkest version of Star Wars that the fans had seen yet.
While we do not have any confirmation on what the rating will be Indiewire reported that the showrunner Tony Gilroy says that the show will be the “opposite of what fans expect as a Rogue One Prequel.” Given the hopeful ending and speech inside of Rogue One, the show may undercut that hopeful idea and show how Cassian became the jaded assassin we see almost kill Galen Erso.
How many episodes will Andor be?
As reported by Gizmodo, the first season will be a lengthy 12 episodes making it considerably longer than the previous seasons of Book of Boba Fett or The Mandalorian. Showrunner Tony Gilroy even indicated that there will be a second season by saying that
“This first season is about him becoming a revolutionary, and the second 12 episodes take him into Rogue One.”
Importantly it needs to be noted that K-2SO will not be a part of the first season, so if you are looking forward to his sarcastic humor you will have to wait for the second season. Nevertheless, this amount of time will hopefully allow for a well-rounded narrative to be crafted and give us almost three months worth of Star Wars content. Andor is set to be released sometime late this summer or early fall, with the exact date hopefully being released in the next few days at Star Wars Celebration.
