Recently Star Wars fans were met with some unexpected news referring to the Star Wars: Visions series. Star Wars: Visions season 2 has been renewed for a second season!

The series will be returning for a second season but the executive producer James Waugh hinted that this series would not be the same as the last time. He also commented that the studios would come from a wider variety of places, some of which were not a part of the project before.

How will Star Wars: Visions season 2 differ from the first?

Star Wars: Visions season 2’s major difference is that there is a chance some of the material may now be integrated into the canon. The first season of Star Wars: Visions was confirmed to be a non-canon project. The stories were more just ideas inside the Star Wars universe but all self-contained in their own right.

Executive producer James Waugh seemed to indicate that this may not always be the case by saying there is “no doubt that we will see things that were in Visions become part of the fabric of Star Wars over the next decades.” That quote speaks to the fact that these stories will no longer “just” be artistic one-offs but become integral to the Star Wars narrative as a whole. But how could this happen?

It could be as simple as having different studies approve their stories that utilize canon characters with Lucasfilm to make sure their stories don’t contradict. While simple, and easy to implement, it seems more likely that they would expand Star Wars: Visions to previously unsee or underrepresented time periods of Star Wars.  This could include a few about the quickly expanding High Republic Era, or more to increase the strength of the Sequal Era. Either way, it’s an interesting thought.

The last new detail we have is that there will be an increased number of studios working on Star Wars: Visions season 2. The new set of studios will include some reoccurring studios and include studios from countries such as Chile, France, South Africa, India, Ireland, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, and the UK. Perhaps these new stories will add their own unique perspectives and styles to Star Wars

Star Wars: Visions will return in the Spring of 2023.
