This post contains SPOILERS for Episode 4 of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Picking up after last week’s highly anticipated showdown, part four of Kenobi doesn’t hit the breaks at all and instead delivers another tension-filled episode.

As the episode begins Obi-Wan is placed in a bacta tank and right away I found myself thinking of Vader in his tank, and sure enough there was a cool little bit flashing between the two of them in their own tanks. I think that is just really great further highlighting their bond and how it has become twisted and broken.

But I found myself looking for a little more from Obi-Wan in regards to how the fight impacted him. The moment was nice but he seemed to recover quite quickly.

For Leia things, aren’t looking good as she is brought to Fortress Inquisitorius. I had figured that our glimpse last episode would be the only time it was shown in the series so it was nice to see that it featured heavily in this episode. It’s with her that Reva seems to let her guard down the most. She drops tantalizing hints about her past which will hopefully be explored further by the end of the series. Leia is almost like a mirror to her, everything Reva could have been if she stayed with the light and Reva is all Leia could be if she turns dark. I think that’s an interesting little contrast. Leia is strong and won’t break, reminding us of the strong woman she will become by the time of A New Hope.

Tala grew on me even more in this episode and she feels like the perfect companion for Obi-Wan on his journey. Together the two of them breaking into Fortress Inquisitorius was really exciting. Getting to see more of the fortress was also a very cool yet haunting thing. Especially the reveal of what I’m calling the Jedi Tomb. When Obi-Wan sees these Jedi you can see the pain and horror in his eyes. It’s quite likely that he knew some of them and they could have been friends. It is another harsh reminder of the horrible acts the Inquisitors and Empire commit.

Thankfully in the end Obi-Wan, Tala, and Leia all escape with the help of the Jabiim resistance. Here the reality of fighting is made all too clear when one of their members dies to help them escape. It’s a solemn moment that reminds Obi-Wan that people are going to get hurt and killed, there is no avoiding it. Leia taking Obi-Wan’s hand is a tender and sweet moment between the two of them.

Both of them have been through a lot so far and they believe that it’s finally over. But our heroes aren’t safe yet. In a move that’s reminiscent of Vader’s in A New Hope, Reva places a tracker within Leia’s droid, Lola. It’s the only thing that keeps Vader from killing her right there and another failure will likely lead to her demise.

“Part IV” kept up the high-paced tension and reminded us of just how horrible the Empire truly can be. With the Inquisitors and Vader hot on Obi-Wan’s tail, another confrontation between former friends seems inevitable.

New reviews of Obi-Wan Kenobi will be available after each episode airs on Disney+.
