The full LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation trailer is a chaotic delight
By Meg Dowell
Summer has officially arrived — and not just in our universe. Lucasfilm just released the official trailer for LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation, the next LEGO Star Wars special to drop on Disney+ and the third in a growing collection of brick-tastic specials set in the Star Wars universe.
Based on today’s trailer, Summer Vacation follows some of your favorite Star Wars characters (in LEGO form!) as they attempt to get away from the stressors of a galaxy far, far away and take a real summer vacation. What could possibly go wrong?
There will be porgs! Palpatine in a bathing suit! Max Rebo (he lives)! and Finn having a long conversation with Force Ghost Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is something we didn’t know we needed until we got it. Expect the unexpected, always.
“Weird Al” Yankovic fans will also be delighted to know that the song playing in the trailer, “Scarif Beach Party,” is an original song by the musician and comedian, who also voices a character in the special.
If this special is anything like LEGO Star Wars: The Holiday Special and Terrifying Tales — and the trailer makes it pretty clear it will be — Summer Vacation will do what LEGO Star Wars does best: combine elements from the franchise with the kind of humor and wholesomeness fans can’t get enough of. There will be blaster fire, ships zooming through space, Palpatine trying to rule (and ruin) everything. But you’ll also laugh. Maybe even cry a little bit.
Did we mention Leia and Ben Solo make an appearance together? That’s the kind of joy we all need a little bit more of this summer. Luckily, the special is only a little over a month away.
LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation premieres August 5 exclusively on Disney+.
