WARNING: This post contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 6.

This week’s epic finale finally answered one of Star Wars fans’ most pressing questions: When will we finally see Beru in Obi-Wan Kenobi?

As Reva makes her way toward the Lars homestead, Owen is made aware that he and his family are in danger. When he tells Beru Reva is coming after Luke, he also suggests they run — leave everything behind and hide. But Beru won’t have it. Not only won’t she leave the homestead — she also won’t go down without a fight, handing Owen a rifle she’s had hidden away “just in case.”

Reva approaches, and both Owen and Beru fire their rifles. When Reva gets too close to Luke before he’s been able to escape, Beru attacks her, refusing to let any harm come to her nephew. After Reva pursues Luke, Beru is the one who first sees her returning over the dunes with the boy safe in her arms.

It’s clear how much Luke really means to Owen and Beru — that they would give their lives to protect him if needed. Fans who have seen A New Hope know how their story ends, and Beru’s actions in this story make that choice even more powerful.

Episode to episode, Beru held a small role across Obi-Wan Kenobi. But her role in “Part VI” was worth the wait. When Owen wanted to run, she said no, we’re fighting even if we die doing it. When she thought Luke was gone, she almost fell apart; when it turned out he was alive, her relief was palpable. In that moment it was clear she is the  mother Luke otherwise never would have had. He is hers. And her sacrifices will never go unnoticed.

All episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
