WARNING: This post contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 6.
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s relationship with the Duchess of Mandalore, Satine Kryze, has thrilled fans since their first interaction in The Clone Wars. The Duchess of Mandalore and Jedi Master first met during the Mandalorian Civil War when Kenobi was still a padawan under Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Obi-Wan saved Satine’s life during the mission and in turn, stole her heart.
Obi-Wan, a Jedi soldier, and Satine, a pacifist ruler, are meant to be the mirror image of Anakin and Padmé’s forbidden love; although they care deeply for each other they understand they can never be together. Even so, this does not rule out the possibility that Satine’s nephew, Korkie, is actually the child of Obi-Wan himself.
When the pair saw each other again on Mandalore, Obi-Wan confessed to her that he would have left the Jedi Order if Satine had asked him all those years ago. Later, when Satine is struck down by Darth Maul, she uses her dying breath to confess her love for Obi-Wan.
So it comes as no surprise that fans were hoping for some sort of recognition of her. Obi-Wan has suffered immense losses throughout his life: Qui-Gon, Anakin, and his entire way of life, but the loss of Satine is something that has yet to be tackled in live-action.
Unfortunately, Satine does not appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi in either mentions or flashbacks. The prospect of seeing the Duchess in the future is still probable, as there is hope for Kenobi’s story to continue. Kathleen Kennedy spoke with Entertainment Tonight and shared:
"“If there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us.”"
All episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
