Star Wars Visions has been Emmy nominated
By Matthew Roth
Fans of the hit Disney+ series Star Wars Visions can rejoice at the list of nominations that have been released for this year’s 74th Emmy Awards. The 9-episode series has been nominated for Outstanding Short Form Animated Program.
Star Wars Visions released on the platform September 22, 2021 and was a collaborative effort from seven different Japanese animation studios to create this anthology series. Kamikaze Douga, Studio Colorido, Geno Studio, Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Production I.G, and Science SARU all came together to create nine 13-22 minute episode shorts based in the Star Wars universe.
Visions is a series unlike any other release before it in the Star Wars universe, its stories existing outside of what many might consider to be the ‘normal’ timeline of a galaxy far, far away. Some of the shorts share many of the themes that are familiar to Star Wars fans with new settings, characters, and concepts. With more episodes on the way, fans will be able to experience even more unique perspectives on a galaxy far, far away.
A second season of the show was already announced with studios from Japan, India, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Chile, France, South Africa, and the United States all coming together this time to be released early 2023.
Visions has been widely successful since its original release, expanding beyond the animated shorts released on Disney+ to include a novel (Ronin by Emma Mieko Candon) as well as several Funko Pop! bobblehead figures. More award nominations will only bring it to wider audiences and earn it even more praise.
Other 2022 Emmy nominees include Love Death, and Robots, Robot Chicken, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and When Billie Met Lisa.
The Emmy’s will be held September 12, 2022.
