Amandla Stenberg officially joins Star Wars in The Acolyte
By Meg Dowell
Amandla Stenberg is officially part of a galaxy far, far away.
The nonbinary actor announced the official news on Instagram today, writing: “Next stop: a galaxy far, far away… I am so excited to finally announce I’m joining Star Wars: #TheAcolyte ! Honored is an understatement. May the Force be with you.”
The official Star Wars Twitter account reposted Stenberg’s photo and wrote: “Join us in welcoming Amandla Stenberg to the Star Wars galaxy.”
Stenberg is best known for their roles in The Hate U Give, Sleepy Hollow, and most recently in 2022’s Bodies Bodies Bodies.
Rumors of the actor’s involvement in The Acolyte have been circulating for quite some time, but they were at last able to confirm their role in the series. The exact role they will play in the show has not been announced at the time of this reporting.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about The Acolyte overall. Many Star Wars fans were hoping that San Diego Comic-Con would reveal more about the project, but this is the only update we’ve gotten in quite some time. More news is expected to drop as the series gets closer to production.
Previously, Dork Side of the Force has reported on rumors that Amandla Stenberg could be joining the series as a dark side user named Aura. Other reports have leaned even more into the suggestion that the name “acolyte” in the title will have connections to other Star Wars projects.
We do know for certain that The Acolyte will take place at some point during The High Republic, will premiere on Disney+, and has nailed down Leslye Headland as its showrunner. At this time, these are most of the major details that can be officially confirmed.
