Star Wars fans interested in learning more about the history of Industrial Light & Magic, the creatives behind it, and how they shaped the industry of visual effects in film, television and more, are in for a behind-the-scenes deep dive unlike anything shown on the small screen before.
Light & Magic, a production of Imagine Documentaries, will “[chronicle] the untold history of world-renowned Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), the special visual effects, animation, and virtual production division of Lucasfilm,” according to the company’s website.
Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Lawrence Kasdan directed the project.
Those who attended the Star Wars Celebration Light & Magic panel back in May 2022 had the privilege of viewing several clips from the documentary series, along with a live roundtable discussion from some of the creatives featured in the series. Tomorrow, however, all Disney+ subscribers will finally get to see the series in full.
Light & Magic will release all six of its episodes on July 27 to allow viewers to take in the entire experience at their own pace. This documentary will delight Star Wars fans young and older, whether you’ve been a fan of the franchise since 1977 or 2022. Film enthusiasts and those interested in the history of Lucasfilm and ILM will also find value in what the show has to offer.
The series will be available on Disney+ from release day onward, so even if you can’t catch any episodes tomorrow, they’ll be there waiting for you when you finally have the time to sit down and take them in. You won’t regret it.
