Actor Sam Whitwer has been part of the Star Wars family for longer than many fans realize — and he’s not done yet.
He first voiced the character Starkiller in the Force Unleashed video games of 2008 and 2010, and has gone on to voice Maul and other Star Wars characters in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and multiple LEGO Star Wars video games and Disney+ specials.
Whitwer has become best known for his impressive range when it comes to his voiceover talent, though he’s appeared in plenty of projects outside of his voice acting roles. Recently, he returned as the voice of Maul in the audiobook release of the middle-grade Star Wars anthology Stories of Jedi and Sith. Now, he’s reprising is role as the character once again — sort of.
Next week, a new wave of Essential Legends Collection novels will hit digital and physical shelves, and with this wave comes two brand-new unabridged audiobook versions of Star Wars Legends re-releases. Rogue Squadron: The Krytos Trap and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter.
Appropriately, Whitwer will narrate the Maul-focused story, not only providing narration but also voicing various characters throughout the book.
The Essential Legends Collection is an ongoing series of Star Wars Legends reprints. These books are the same stories from what fans used to call the Expanded Universe timeline, reprinted with new covers and filed under the Essential Legends banner. Each wave thus far has also been accompanied by a newly recorded unabridged audiobook, since many of the audiobook recordings of Star Wars books back then were abridged versions — if audiobook versions were widely available to the general public at all.
The next wave of Essential Legends Collection paperback novels, including Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, will release on August 2, 2022, with another wave planned for November.
