Mon Mothma is getting all the screen (and page) time she deserves and more in 2022, and more is likely on the horizon for this longtime fan-favorite character.

Though painted as a vital member of the Rebel Alliance in Return of the Jedi, in the subsequent Legends books and briefly in the prequel era as a founding member of the rebellion alongside Bail Organa, Mon Mothma didn’t get a lot of screen time in any of the movies she appeared in. She was someone viewers were supposed to look on with admiration and respect, but not a lot was known about her — especially when canon storytelling had to, in many ways, start over with stories told outside of the movies and TV shows.

But thanks to Andor, the fierce, dedicated leader is at last getting the spotlight.

The show will divide its time between Cassian’s story and Mon’s parallel journey as an Imperial Senator in the years leading up to A New Hope. We’re going to see more of her in this series on the small screen than we have in all her previous appearances combined.

But it’s not just Star Wars TV. Books like The Princess and the Scoundrel (on sale August 16 wherever you get your Star Wars books) also feature Mon and her role in the rebellion (in this particular case, after the second Death Star gets blown up and the galaxy is about to tumble headfirst into absolute chaos).

She has appeared in canon before — she played an important though small role in Rebels when the Alliance was just starting to get serious about attempting to stop the Empire from pushing the galaxy further into conflict. But now, more viewers are going to get to know who she is and what she stands for — and that’s a good thing.

Star Wars: Andor will premiere exclusively on Disney+ August 31, 2022.

Next. Andor will be the most political Star Wars project since the prequels. dark
