Lucasfilm has registered a few new trademarks that has caused some speculation among fans about possible Star Wars projects that haven’t been announced yet. Some eagle eyed fans noticed that on July 26th, Lucasfilm filed three new trademarks for the terms, “The Great Circle”, “The Galactic Circle”, and “Circle of Resistance.” Of course we don’t have concrete proof that any of these are directly tied to future Star Wars projects. It’s possible that these trademarks could be in reference to something completely different that Lucasfilm is working on. However, with the words Galactic and Resistance both appearing in the trademarks, it’s not too much of a stretch to guess that they are related to Star Wars in some way.

Now, assuming that the trademarks are in reference to an upcoming Star Wars project, we still don’t know much about what that project could be. For example, it’s possible that the three different trademarks are in reference to three different projects or could all be the same project. Lucasfilm may have simply not settled on a title yet, and are trademarking all the possibilities to cover their bases before the official announcement is made. We also don’t know exactly what type of project the trademarks could be for, though we do have a guess on that front. The three trademarks are all classified under the “9” and “41” labels meaning that our best guess is that these are in reference to a movie or television show given that this is the same classification that Lucasfilm used for trademarking Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian, and all three titles in the sequel series.

This kind of digging into trademarks has proven to be useful in the past. For a recent example, trademarks for The Kang Dynasty and for Secret Wars were filed the day before those were announced to be the titles of the next two Avengers movies at Comic-con. While this only let fans know of the new Avengers titles a day before the official announcement, it proves that there is some merit in looking through the trademark filings from these companies to get a idea of what might be in store before the announcements are officially made.

So when will we find out more? Unfortunately that’s hard to say. It’s possible that it could be years before we learn more, or there may not ever be an official announcement if Lucasfilm decides to end the project. Of course it could also be just a matter of weeks away. The next opportunity that Lucasfilm would most likely reveal new information would be in September at D23. While we might not get any information about The Great Circle and whatever that is, it’s likely that some Star Wars information will be revealed then.
