Gwendoline Christie would love a Phasma return in Star Wars
By Meg Dowell
Gwendoline Christie made her Star Wars debut in 2015’s The Force Awakens, where she played a chrome-armored stormtrooper named Captain Phasma.
Though Phasma’s role in the movie is small, her presence left a significant mark on the story. She returned for the movie’s first sequel, The Last Jedi, where her character was (allegedly) defeated by one of the film’s heroes. Finn finally conquered his past as a stormtrooper by winning the battle against
Speaking with Empire, Christie said she would love to see Phasma turn up again in a story on-screen.
“I haven’t read the comics but, I mean, it’s Star Wars! I would absolutely love that.” If there were future opportunities to play Phasma again, she would presumably be interested. And if it wasn’t her playing the character, she still seems to like the idea. “There was a template for a character that people got really excited about. It would be smashing if they felt that it was worthwhile to explore, along with some fabulous action.”
Outside of the big screen, Phasma got her own self-titled Star Wars novel, plus several appearances in Star Wars: Resistance. She is, of course, also in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Between the Phasma novel and the comics she has appeared in, her character has already largely been explored, and assuming her death was final in The Last Jedi, there aren’t a ton of new stories that could add more depth to her.
So of course that means we have to avoid ruling out the possibility that Phasma survived that fall, she once again escaped, and this time managed to leave the First Order behind for a life she’d never known before: One of peace, and not so much a constant battle for dominance and survival.
That could open up a few good stories for her post-sequel trilogy, which I’m sure Delilah Dawson would love to tackle in a future page-turning adventure if an on-screen version didn’t happen first.
