Star Wars fans were slightly disappointed to find out that the highly anticipated Disney+ series Andor was pushed back a few weeks into September. however, writer and showrunner Tony Gilroy has revealed some information in regards to the show’s title character.

In a recent interview with The Nerds of Color at Star Wars Celebration, Gilroy peeled back the curtain a little bit to let us know that Cassian is “as far away from Rogue One as possible.” When we first met him in the film Andor was ready to do what was necessary for the name of the Rebellion. When the show releases we will be taken on a journey that will slowly morph him into that character. As fans remember there was a point in Rogue One where he had to eliminate a helping hand to the Rebellion in order to save his life and those he aligns with.

Gilroy promises that the “awakening” will not only be an emotionally charged one but, also a political one. He states ” It’s an odyssey, a political awakening for him. It’s an emotional awakening for him. He goes through an incredible amount of things, he’s a different person at the end of the year than he started at. And then in the second half, it’s watching that be put in play.” The first season of Andor will follow the first year of his journey toward the Rebellion whereas the second season will be broken up over the remaining four years.

The trailers we have seen promise to show us that this is a dark period for the galaxy. The Empire is firmly in control and we are seeing what it was like for the average citizen trying to survive. There is no doubt Diego Luna’s Andor will undergo some severe and life-changing experiences.

Andor will premier with 3 episodes on Disney+ September 21st.
