Ewan McGregor gives update on Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2
By Ben Winnell
The trouble with limited series is that more often than not, they’re pretty darn good! Such was indeed the case with the six-episode run of Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor who reprised his role after a 17-year absence from the galaxy far, far away.
Naturally, such success leads to speculation on a follow up. While the show was always marketed as a limited series, Lucasfilm has been taking a ‘never say never’ approach to such things.
While at the event Celebrity Fan Fest, McGregor had this to say when asked about the chances of more Kenobi:
“I’m totally up for it guys, I want to do it. […] I’m absolutely honest, there is no plan to make one yet. But I think, I’m pretty sure they’re just biding their time. But nobody’s approached me as of yet.”
As a producer on the same show he starred in, McGregor’s quips are not just the idle non-answers of a public individual not wanting to give a definitive answer either way. His enthusiasm for the project has been palpable throughout the marketing and after the series release, meaning we can likely take him at his word that the will for more Kenobi is there but as of yet there are no official plans as far as Lucasfilm is concerned.
The series took place a decade after the end of the Clone Wars, meaning there’s still a whole 9 years until the events of A New Hope are due to take place. Not to mention the potential for other time periods to be covered going as far back as before the Clone Wars right up until the rescue aboard the Death Star.
If ever there will be more Kenobi, it’s unlikely it will come anytime soon. The current Star Wars slate is pretty full for the next few years. Up next is the live action series Andor starring Diego Luna. The show has already been promised a second season, giving Kenobi hopefuls something to be excited about.
All episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are available streaming on Disney+
