As time goes on, Star Wars fans learn more and more about The Acolyte, a mysterious Disney+ series originally announced on Disney Investor Day 2020. Fans were recently granted confirmation that Amandla Stenberg had been cast in a lead role. Now, rumors are beginning to circulate about familiar characters that could appear in the series alongside Stenberg’s unnamed lead.

A rumor from Bespin Bulletin suggests that Darth Plagueis, whose backstory was told in the Legends novel of the same name but only appeared by mention canonically in Revenge of the Sith, will appear in Star Wars: The Acolyte. This appearance would be his live-action canon debut.

In James Luceno’s novel, Plagueis — the eventual master of Darth Sidious — embarks on a decades-long journey to attempt to uncover the secret to immortality. As Palpatine tells Anakin in Revenge of the Sith, no matter how hard he tried to figure out how to live forever, Plagueis fell prey to his biggest threat of all: his Sith apprentice.

So far, we know that The Acolyte will allegedly focus on dark side Force-users in the end times of the High Republic. Showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) hasn’t revealed much about the story this series will tell, but it’s set in a time period Star Wars has largely left untouched on the small screen. Almost anything is possible.

The Acolyte would be an ideal place to introduce Plagueis into live-action, since fans who recognized his name and those less familiar with him alike would be able to follow the progression of his story — assuming he would have a decent-sized role in the show if the rumors turn out to be true.

If the series does follow the rise of the Sith ideology prior to The Phantom Menace, perhaps Plagueis will at least get a mention as a vital figure in facilitating the eventual rise to power of his menacing apprentice.
