Tony Gilroy talks Andor season 2
By Matthew Roth
So we already know that Andor will have two seasons spanning five years leading into where we pick up in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The first season will span one year while season two will be broken up over the next four with three episodes spanning a year each. Recently showrunner Tony Gilroy sat down with Total Film magazine to chat more about season two.
Firstly, Gilroy discussed what we already knew and mentioned. Season two will cover the four years between season one and Rogue One. he stated.
“We have four blocks of three episodes coming up for season 2. And each block will move you one year closer to Rogue One. And because it’s a year each time we can do something really fascinating narratively that you would never have the chance to do in a film. It’s exciting.”
It was then confirmed that season 2 will begin to film this November.
Gilroy went on to explain that the Cassian Andor we meet in the show is going to be very different than the one that we have already met. “It says a lot that his best friend in the movie is a droid, you know? Or his only friend I should say. But in the show we’re going to start with someone who is very different from the quiet, lonely man, we meet in Rogue One. We’re so far away from that in this first season, there’s a whole journey for us to explore.”
This alone should give fans a lot to be excited about as we already know the fate of Cassian in the film but, diving into this mysterious back story of how did we get to the person we have met leaves a lot of fun and exploration. The show will release its first three episodes on September 21st on Disney+. WIll you be watching?
