Ever since the show’s first season ended on a sad yet hopeful note, Star Wars fans have been begging for news of The Bad Batch Season 2 release date. Especially since Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger.
While a trailer and exclusive footage were released at Star Wars Celebration this spring, it seems like the show’s release date has either been left off the September calendar … or it was never supposed to be there in the first place.
Technically, Season 2’s release date was never officially announced. The date of “September 28” did briefly appear on Disney+ on the home page for The Bad Batch, but was removed. When you navigate to the Bad Batch screen now, it says “new season coming soon to Disney+” in bold yellow font.
So no, you didn’t image the supposed original release date; it was written there at one point, and Twitter ran with it as Twitter always does. There technically hasn’t been a delay; there just hasn’t been an official announcement of the finite release date yet.
It’s very likely that next month’s Disney+ Day will come with an official The Bad Batch Season 2 release date, as well as a release date for the upcoming anthology series Tales of the Jedi. Both of these shows were originally given Fall 2022 release dates at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim back in May, and there’s only so much fall that doesn’t already have Star Wars in it.
The most likely scenario is that one or both of these series will wait until 2023 to debut. While that’s a little disappointing for fans, this would give Andor more room to breathe — and make it less likely that this live-action series will overshadow the animated shows also up for release soon.
The Bad Batch Season 2 will premiere … eventually! Exclusively on Disney+.
