Star Wars has released another teaser clip for Andor, showing the relationship between the titular character and Luthen. It also contextualises some of the lines that have been heard in the trailer, and hints at how both Andor and Luthen start off.

The clip features a short conversation between Andor and Luthen in a scrapyard, with the pair talking about how Andor got a box from an Imperial naval base (presumably what’s inside is valuable). Luthen says that he knows that Andor bribes Imperial quartermasters to leave valuables on their ships when they’re sent to be scrapped, but the box wouldn’t make it past. Luthen pressures Andor into telling him how he got it, offering up 1,000 credits, which Andor takes, and reveals that he just walked in. This clip contextualises some of the lines heard in the official trailers, with Andor telling Luthen that he just walked in like he belonged.

This trailer however hints at a lot more than what it shows. It gives audiences a look at the relationship between Andor and Luthen, revealing that Andor smuggles valuables to Luthen in scrapped ships. It seems that Luthen at this point isn’t interested in fighting back against the Empire, perhaps it’s this conversation with Andor that makes him realise that the monolithic organisation can be defeated, as they don’t care when things are stolen from them. He certainly seems surprised when Andor reveals he simply walked onto the base, stole the equipment and walked out.

It also reveals that Luthen is a Scrapper, presumably part of the Scrappers Guild. This group takes apart older ships and who are not part of the Empire, but work with them. The Guild appeared in Jedi: Fallen Order, as well as The Bad Batch. Both times the Guild was based on the planet Bracca, though they may also be active on other planets. The previous two trailers have shown several workers in a junkyard, which fits if they are Scrappers. Obi Wan Kenobi tied heavily into Jedi: Fallen Order, it wouldn’t be surprising if Andor did the same.

If the Imperials are sending ships to be scrapped, then the obvious question is what ships are they scrapping? Concept art released for Andor shows a Venator Class Star Destroyer being dismantled, so it’s possible that the audience may get a look at Luthen and his crew dismantling a Venator. Other likely candidates are Victory Class Star Destroyers and various types of Separatist ship. It’s possible that at some point we see Andor and Luthen raid the scrapyard, and attempt to salvage ships to fight back against the Empire. This would give an amazing insight into how an early Rebel fleet gets formed, and a great way to tie the show into the prequels. Star Wars novels, Tarkin and Thrawn for example, have seen rebel elements use old Separatist warships and fighters against the Empire, and it would be great to see this fact make its way into live action.

The Imperial naval base that Luthen mentions on Steergard is unknown currently, but it might link to the Imperial facilities that can be seen in the trailer. It’s likely that audiences will have to wait until Andor for more information on the base, as there isn’t a lot currently.

While on the surface this clip is just a short conversation, explaining that Andor and Luthen have some sort of business relationship for stealing valuables, it hints at a lot more. There a lot of potential avenues for the show to go down, as well as potential tie ins to other Star Wars stories.
