The ending of The Rise of Skywalker‘s final battle against Darth Sidious ended with Rey Skywalker tapping into generations’ worth of Jedi knights and masters to defeat her enemy. But what if some of those Jedi, instead of speaking only to Rey, spoke to Palpatine as well?

This is the premise of a fan-made alternate ending concept for the film shared online.

The Instagram poster features a group of Jedi Force Ghosts — including Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Luke Skywalker. There’s also an entire scene written out in the Instagram caption to go along with the poster.

“Palpatine is taken back – shocked at the site of the five people he once thought were the biggest threat to his master plan are standing together as one,” the ending of the caption reads,

Even though the film’s climax and the message behind it involved the Jedi communicating to Rey specifically in order for her to channel the Force into her final defense against Sidious, there’s nothing wrong with what-ifs. Imagining how things could have gone differently in a story is a normal part of the fandom experience. And when it comes forth in the form of art as is done so with the aim of celebrating Star Wars, it should be shared.

The beautiful thing about fanfiction, fan art, and other fan-made creations inspired by franchises like Star Wars is that it gives viewers a chance to imagine “what could have been” without the need for extra debate. If this is how someone wants to imagine the sequel trilogy ending, then that’s their ending. It looks great! Even if that’s not how it ended, in the ever-growing landscape of fandom creation, that’s beside the point.
