With the hit series Andor releasing this month we have begun to learn more and more about the show which will premiere on Disney+. The production aimed to work more practically and use limited CGI in its filming we have learned.
For production, the team built three to five city blocks to be used in the show. This is vastly different from the normal usage of the massive Volume set at their disposal which we have seen in the other shows. The team behind Andor wanted to keep the vibe very much real and capture the everyday bustle of what a city would be like in this universe.
Adria Arjona, the actor behind Bix Caleen ( a mechanic and spy) shared with Collider recently that ” They built an entire city for us, like an entire city. I got lost in it.” She went on to say ” It was an entire outdoor city that exists. It’s not in a studio. It’s not parts of a set we filmed in a studio. It’s very much a city.” This should excite fans and have seen the trailers explains the very realistic cinematic feel of what we fans have seen so far.
Tony Gilroy, the showrunner for Andor, explained that they shot on real locations using only constructed sets in London. ” This show should work on its own. The hope, the dream, is that the really hardcore Star Wars community will embrace the show in a new way.” Gilroy stated in a Variety interview.
The show features Diego Luna as Cassian Andor set five years before we first met him in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We will see his rise into the position he has within the rebellion as well as potentially the birth of the Rebellion itself. The show premiers September 21st with three episodes on Disney+.
